What Net Worth Really Means

It is not a number. It is a way of thinking.

Net worth is usually reduced to one calculation: assets minus liabilities. That number is real, but it only scratches the surface.

A net worth mindset treats every financial decision, large or small, as a reflection of your priorities and your values, not just your bank balance. It transcends income and asset levels. It is a universal approach to financial empowerment that improves your financial, psychological, and physical wellness, no matter where you are starting from.

"This book is not about quick wins or shortcuts. It is about building one consistent way of thinking about money, for life."

Dean E. Parsons, DBA, MBA
Founder & Chief Investment Officer, Global Diversified Investments

For more than 20 years, Dean has helped individuals and organizations make thoughtful financial decisions through changing markets and uncertain times. Dean holds a Doctor of Business Administration and an MBA, and his doctoral research examined the relationship between credit spreads, interest rate risk, and fixed income returns. He also spent more than a decade teaching investments and international finance at the university level.

That combination of real world experience, academic research, and teaching inspired The Net Worth Mindset. Dean's goal is to make financial principles understandable and actionable, helping readers look beyond account balances, make more intentional decisions, and build a healthier, more confident relationship with money.

The Framework

Six principles. One unlocked now.

The book breaks the Net Worth Mindset into six principles. Here is the first one, in full. The rest unlock at launch.

Principle 01 of 06

Understand financial reality.

Before any plan, any budget, any investment: four numbers.

🔒
02
The psychology of wealth
🔒
03
From insight to tactical action
🔒
04
Build your planning structure
🔒
05
Maintain and protect what you built
🔒
06
Save and invest with purpose

Principles two through six, and the methodology behind each one, are reserved for the book.

Why It Matters
You cannot make an informed decision about numbers you don't examine.

Avoiding is still a choice. It simply allows circumstances to decide for you.

Step One

Work through the four categories one at a time. Gather and total the amounts that belong in each until you arrive at four numbers: what you own, what you owe, what comes in, and what goes out.

Write those four totals together on one page, without judgment. That page is your starting line. Everything else in the framework builds from it.
